Struthers council gathered input from people around the city, from teenagers to business owners to find out what they want to see in
their community.
They even got suggestions from former mayors Terry Stocker, and Dan Mamula for the "Discover Struthers" plan which is a road map to help bring projects to life in the city.
Struthers Mayor Catherine Cercone Miller and city council members approved a comprehensive plan after engaging the community to find out what they want for thier city.
Surprisingly both the older folks and younger ones want many of the same things such as a community and senior center.
"They want community space. They want places that they can go, places for activities, develop the river area, develop the downtown area, and really get that sense of community back into Struthers," Mayor Katherine Cercone Miller said.
One entire section of Discover Struthers is geared towards economic development and helping grow businesses in Struthers.
Beautifying the city to attract more people and families to move and live in Struthers is another priority.
Plans for a dog park are underway, which is another idea that many people want.
Developing the city's pocket parks including the Fifth Street and Mickler Parks where kids play soccer or practice football are priorities.
"One of our councilmen Mr. Burnside strongly believes we need to have some playground equipment so that is something we are going to push for as council, to get some of these parks with some playground equipment," Councilwoman Lori Greenwood said.
The plan is needed to also apply for state and federal grants to help build up Struthers.
The Mayor tells us Struthers was able to submit the plan to Ohio Department of Transportation with one of their safety studies and the city already received a million dollar grant to help improve downtown.
