AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A woman who had been living in a garage in Austintown has agreed to leave the property according to employees of the Austintown Municipal Court.

According to court employees, Pamela Grate, as well as the current owners of the property showed up in court on Friday representing themselves.

Court employees tell 21 News that Grate conceded that she had no right to be on the property. Employees further tell us that a writ will be issued ordering her off the property within a certain time frame once all costs and fees are paid.

However, court employees say they believe Grate had already left the property.

For over two years, Grate had been living on the property in conditions deemed uninhabitable and was ordered numerous times to leave it. The Austintown Zoning Department says propane heaters were being used on the property.

In January of 2022, evidence was presented showing that Grate did not comply with an order to stop using the heaters, so she was sentenced to 10 days in jail.

Since then, neighbors had purchased the property in a sheriff sale and took legal action against the Grates who were living in a tent in the woods behind the property.
