Following days of dry weather, some Valley firefighters found themselves battling blazes in brush.

Crews from several Trumbull County departments were called out to Mecca Township before noon Thursday as flames were spreading in a field at the dead end of Mahan Denman Road on the west side of Mosquito Lake.

A couple of hours before on the other side of the state line, firefighters in West Salem Township battled a brush fire.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources reported that wildfire danger is high Friday for most of central and western Pennsylvania including Mercer County.

People are being asked not to start any outdoor fires in those counties until conditions improve.
