A Boardman mail carrier was assaulted and robbed of a key used by postal workers to gain access to multifamily facilities in Boardman Wednesday.

According to Boardman Police Chief Todd Werth, around 12:30 pm, a US Postal mail carrier was tackled while on the job on Melbourne Avenue.

Werth told 21 News that three unidentified males demanded the carrier hand over his arrow key, a key used by postal carriers to access unstaffed multifamily buildings to deliver mail.

The three subjects are described as black males, possibly in their twenties, who fled in an older model Silver Pontiac.

The vehicle had a temporary tag on the left side of the rear window.

Anyone with possible information on the suspects or who possibly saw the vehicle is being asked to contact the Boardman Police Department at 330-726-4144.

This was the second robbery of a postal key this week. On Monday, a postal worker was robbed by two suspects of an arrow key on Kensington Avenue in Youngstown.
