1999: Austintown Township trustees join other urban townships in seeking home rule powers for townships that have populations of at least 15,000 and budgets in excess of $3 million.
Robert Monus, Poland Township zoning administrator, warns the 100 or so swimming pool owners in the township that when spring weather breaks, he will resume enforcing the township's requirement that any swimming pool must be surrounded by a 6-foot fence with a self-latching gate. Thirty-two homeowners were cited in 1998.
Youngstown Patrolman Terence Russo and a passing neighbor, Adam Richards, enter a burning home and help lead firefighters to a two-year-old child hiding under blankets and clothing. Firefighters completed the rescue of Draquan Davis, who was reported in stable condition at Tod Children's Hospital.
