LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Fire crews were at the scene of a barn fire in Lordstown early Monday morning.

Details are currently limited, but a viewer tells 21 News that he had woken up to the flames and smoke from a barn on a neighboring property around 6:00 a.m.

Video from the viewer shows heavy smoke in the air and the barn engulfed in flames. The barn is on the property of Kibler Dairy Farms, located on the 5100 Block of Highland Avenue.

Dispatchers could not provide any further details but confirmed that crews were still at the scene for many hours of the day.

Although a few pigs were able to make it out safely, four of them died under the wreckage.

At this point, the cause of the fire is undetermined, but the owner believes a shortage in the electrical system is the possible cause of the blaze.

Seven Trumbull County fire departments responded to the fire, which took a couple of hours to put out.

The fire chief says the early morning subfreezing temperatures created a significant hurdle in their fight as hydrants were frozen until fire crews could thaw them out.

The roadway was blocked off for the day, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.
