Bristol FD holds special meeting for new fire truck funds

Bristol Township Fire Department will have a special meeting with the Bristol Trustees to discuss allocating funds to purchase a new fire truck that would replace an outdated truck purchased in 1997.
Fire Chief Steven Craiger says the department is looking to apply for a FEMA grant specifically for firefighters called the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) for an amount around $800,000 to assist in purchasing the new truck. At the meeting, he is looking for trustees to approve an increase in the township's match of the grant from the standard 5%-15% to 50%, the match then coming out to around $400,000.
This money would come from the Bristol Fire Department's five year, two mills additional levy passed in November 2023 that will generate a little more than $600,000 total, or $120,000 a year.
Craiger says the department has received AFG's before which helped to pay for necessary equipment, like breathing air compressors.
