Poland Township residents made their voices heard Tuesday, passing the township's police levy.

The final vote for the new 0.73-mill 5-year renewal levy was 73.83% for and 26.17% against.

The additional levy will cost a homeowner $26 per year based on every $100,000 of home value.

This was the second attempt to pass a police levy after voters rejected it in November 2023 with 53.03% voting against it. The 2023 vote was the first time the township's police expense levy failed since 1978.

After the measure failed in the November election, trustees voted quickly to get another levy on the March ballot.

Trustees told 21 News they believed they needed to approve the messaging of what the ballot is.

Town hall events have been held in support of the levy over the last few months to get in front of any confusion in the ballot language.
