21 News has told the story of Animal Charity of Ohio struggling to house a plethora of animals, in their 4,000 square foot building. However, things began to look up when they acquired a 22,000 square foot building in Boardman but now, Animal Charity is facing another problem.

"There's this portion that still needs to get done before we can move animals in," said Executive Director Jane MacMurchy. "We were really hoping that House Bill 2 was going to be completed and voted on in the Senate by now and it hasn't, so all of that funding that we were counting on, is not here," she said.

We're not talking petty cash either. In order to complete the project, Animal Charity needs $1 million dollars. If they don't find it by June 1st, they'll have to cut back on the services they provide to the community.

"Right now we do a lot of community service calls so typically, all of our animals that come in are supposed to be for criminal and cruelty cases, hoarding cases, abandonment, abuse, neglect, but we also do the services for elderly community members that are maybe going into the hospital or going into a nursing home, people that have been arrested. Responding very quickly to bring those animals into our care until a family member can be found, truly this situation is going to then fall back onto law enforcement," said MacMurchy. "They'll be responsible if they're removing the people from the homes or arresting an individual. The law enforcement community would then be responsible for finding a family member, a neighbor or friend to care for those animals until the person is released," she said.

Animal Charity will continue to run in the building they're currently housed in if they don't raise the funds, but they won't be able to help out in the community in the capacity that they are now.

If you'd like to help or get involved with one of several fundraisers they have going on, you can donate on the Animal Charity website, here.
