Big things are coming for the Canfield City School District for its 2024-2025 school year.

Nine new STEM classes, including AP Statistics and Zoology will be added to the curriculum next year. Other courses include Financial Literacy, Sports Officiating and Farm to Table.

Additionally, the district plans to update its math curriculum for grades K-8.

The announcement was made during a State of the Schools address held in the Canfield High School's auditorium.

The district also laid out the facility improvements, totaling $15 million, that needs to be done.

It includes power upgrades and pavement improvements at Campbell Elementary School, Roof and paving work at Hilltop Elementary School and Roof, paving and drainage work at Canfield Highschool.

At this time, it's unclear if the board will attempt to put a levy on the ballot in November. The board said it was still deciding what action it should take.

Meanwhile, the district touted five star school district ranking by the Ohio Board of Education - the only district in Mahoning County to have one.
