Appeal denied for Youngstown man convicted in murder of Warren man

WARREN, Ohio - The appeal of a Youngstown man convicted of the murder of a man during a home invasion in Warren back in 2023 has been denied.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, the appeal for 27-year-old Ronique Requel has been denied by the Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals on Monday.
Requel was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole plus three years on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, having weapons under disability, intimidation of a witness and receiving stolen property.
These charges all stem from the deadly home invasion that claimed the life of 28-year-old Adam Spaid back in February of 2023.
Requel appealed this conviction claiming that judge Andrew Logan denied him the right to effective assistance of council by failing to inquire into the basis of his motion to dismiss his appointed counsel.
The appeals court stated that this claim was without merit stating that even if the allegations in Requel's motion were true, the state presented "overwhelming evidence" of his guilt.
