Police accuse a Liberty woman of driving double the 40-mph speed limit with two children riding in her SUV.

Twenty-five-year-old Kayla Rogers was arrested late Tuesday on criminal charges of failure to comply with a police order, possessing drug paraphernalia, and traffic violations of speeding, operating a vehicle with wanton disregard, and ignoring traffic control devices.

Officers say they spotted a BMW SUV driving 80 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone on Logan Way.

Police say after the SUV ran a stop sign and cut through a gas station parking lot to avoid a stop light, they switched on their siren and flashing lights as they followed the SUV.

The police cruiser caught up with the SUV after it pulled into a driveway on Churchill Hubbard Road. That’s when officers noticed there were two children as passengers.  The report does not disclose the ages of the children who were turned over to a relative.

A search of the car, a purse, and a makeup bag turned up a glass pipe and what police suspect is narcotics.  Rogers told police that the items belonged to a friend.

Officers say they also found the opiate overdose reversal drug Narcan.

Police said in a report that more charges could come once test results come back on the suspected drugs.

Rogers pleaded “not guilty” to the charges and faces another hearing next month in Girard Municipal Court.
