NILES, Ohio - The City of Niles will begin conducting its annual citywide hydrant flushing next week.

Beginning Tuesday, May 28, the city will begin its annual flushing program, which is expected to last two to three weeks weather permitting. Three crews will be flushing hydrants in various parts of the city each day.

The flushing program is necessary in order to maintain the water quality and evaluate the effectiveness of the fire hydrants throughout the city.

During the flushing period, residents may experience lower water pressure than usual and discoloration may appear in residents' water for a short time.

If you experience discoloration, you're asked to run your cold water for a short time until the discoloration is gone.
