TOPINCN pool drain covers recalled due to potential entrapment hazard
A recall has been issued on TOPINCN pool drain covers sold on Amazon due to a potential entrapment hazard.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the 1.5-inch and three-inch drain covers do not adhere to the entrapment protection standards outlined in the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGBA) and in turn poses an entrapment hazard to swimmers.
The 1.5-inch products have two screws and measure about four inches by two inches and the three-inch products have two screws and measure about five inches by three inches. Both products are white and made of plastic.
The recalled products were sold exclusively on Amazon between September of 2022 and March of 2024 for between $9 and $32 apiece.
If you have purchased a recalled product and installed it into your pool, you're asked to stop using it, remove it from your pool, take a photo of it and email that photo to [email protected] for a full refund.
Pool owners are asked to make sure their drains are compliant with VGBA and to teach children to stay away from pool drains.
According to the Portage County Health District, the VGBA mandates all pools and hot tubs to have American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) A112.19.8 performance standard, or the successor standard ANSI/APSP-16 2011 compliant drain covers installed and a second anti-entrapment system installed, when there is a single main drain other than an unblockable drain.
