WELLSVILLE, Ohio - It's been over a year since Wellsville Police called on the public to identify a body found washed up on the shore of the Ohio River. Now, police finally have an identity.

According to police, the body was identified as that of 17-year-old JayShawn Fountain (pictured below), a teen that's been missing from the Pittsburgh area since February of 2023.

Fountain's body was first reported to Wellsville Police back in April of 2023. The body was transferred to the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office where it was estimated to be that of a male between 30 and 40 years old.

Investigators tried to identify the body via DNA fingerprints but were unable to do so. Police also tried looking through missing persons reports from several nearby states but had no luck there either.

It wasn't until June of 2024 police were able to identify the body as that of Fountain.

Wellsville Police thanked the Newell and Wellsville Fire Departments, the Columbiana County Prosecutors and Coroner's Offices and Lisa Savage from BCI&I for their help in the investigation and send condolences to Fountain's family.
