AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Austintown Township has a new fire chief.

David Schertzer was sworn in during Monday evening's trustee meeting.

Former Fire Chief Andy Frost retired just a couple of weeks ago.

Schertzer graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1991 and has been with the Austintown Fire Department since 1992, starting off as a part-time firefighter. He became full time in 2000 and worked his way through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 2016.

He was promoted to captain in 2018 and then assistant chief in 2019.

"Austintown is home to me, it's all I've ever known and I wouldn't want to do this anywhere else," Schertzer said. "We're going to continue to do the great things that we've done in the past and see where we can take it in the future."

During the meeting, former Fire Chief Andy Frost was brought back into the department. He was rehired as a part-time firefighter and EMT.
