CANFIELD, Ohio -

As the 178th Canfield Fair comes to a close, this is the first time the torch is being passed on to a new Canfield Fair Manager.

Skye Tancer is assuming the duties of fair manager following the upcoming retirement of long-time fair manager, Bev Fisher at the end of September.

"We've always come to the fair," Tancer told 21 News. "We always come to the draft horses and we loved Eddie. We always have our favorite gyro place and our favorite corn dog place. We always experiment with the french fries."

Tancer served in various roles within the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Senior Master before retiring from the military. Most recently, Tancer was a development officer for the Youngstown State University Foundation. She holds a Bachelor's degree from YSU along with multiple associate degrees from Air Force Community College. Tancer is a member of the Junior League of Mahoning Valley and sits on the board of the Rich Center for Autism.

"The fair is about the community and family and I have a passion for that," she said. "This week, I've been taking it all in. I've been watching all of the pieces fall together. I'm very excited to work with the board and a better community. I'm full of ideas and it's very exciting."

While her ideas are still in the works of what she plans to accomplish, she'll work closely with the Fair Board of Directors, making decisions hand-in-hand. Tancer will also oversee fairground operations year-round.

Tancer is bringing on the responsibility as the Canfield Fair continues to boom in popularity, seeing its busiest Sunday on record, with over 65k attendees.

"The fairgrounds have a lot of history here," Tancer added. "It's 178 years old so we have a lot of historical buildings that need upkeep. When it comes to events, we are operating events 48 weeks out of the year."

The planning for year #179 kicks off Tuesday morning. The 179th Canfield Fair will be held August 27- September 1, 2025.
