Mathews Local School District unveils plans for new gym
The district is currently using a multipurpose room that contains both the cafeteria and gym.

CORTLAND, Ohio - The Mathews School District unveiled plans for a new gymnasium at its elementary school Wednesday evening.
The district is currently using a multipurpose room that contains both the cafeteria and gym.
Mathews Local Schools superintendent Russell McQuaide said that putting two important facets of the school in one room was not ideal.
"When you have a gym and a cafeteria mixed together, neither one of them is very good. What we're trying to do is make it so we have a dedicated facility for athletics and for lunch and any other activities," said McQuaide.
The new gym is estimated to cost the school district $2.2 million.
McQuaide says they're not planning for a levy or any new money to pay for the project.
