POLAND TWP., Ohio -  People who live in Poland Township continue to be frustrated over the green utility boxes lining their yards.

The township trustees passed an ordinance to stop them from being installed back in June, but some neighborhoods still saw more popping up. Now, the trustees are fighting to correct the situation.

“There was one little subdivision that right around the time we passed the resolution, started having some pop up. So really, we are trying to go back and rectify their concerns the best that we can,” said Eric Ungaro, chair of the Poland Township Trustees.

The frustrations over utility boxes being installed in Poland township neighborhoods have been ongoing for months.

“There’s got to be another solution. We have no objection to the newest technology. We welcome it. What we don’t welcome and appreciate is the pedestals sticking out of the ground,” said Jerry Ambrosia, Poland Township resident.

Even though the resolution was passed in June, more boxes were getting installed even after the resolution passed.

“Throughout the course of the summer they're recognizing what eyesores are coming in. We just pulled together a petition to say what works and what doesn't. And if you didn't have the agreement beforehand, why did you come in here?” said Adam Hickman, Poland Township resident.

Poland Township Trustees are trying to work with the internet companies that installed the boxes to try and fix the problem.

“We're dealing with specifically the ones in the front yard that were added. We're just trying to retro it back to our June resolution where there were a lot more stringent guidelines and checklists that these companies have to follow,” said Ungaro.

Some Poland Township residents have three or four of these utility boxes sitting in the middle of their yards. Hickman said even if they do stop installing these utility boxes, that will not get rid of the ones that are already in their yards.

“Boxes have stopped showing up, but the eyesores continue,” said Hickman.

“It would be a big undertaking for the companies to come back now I believe and make the change, but at least the township is getting them to do that,” said Ambrosia.

The guidelines in the resolution require any newly installed boxes to be closer to the ground.
