Mahoning County Public Health released a flyer advertising its last rabies vaccination clinic of 2024.

The clinic is scheduled for December 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road, Canfield, OH.

All dogs, cats and ferrets over the age of three months must have a rabies vaccination, according to the Mahoning County Public Health's Rabies Control Regulation

Pet owners must have their pets on a leash, in a cage or carried inside a pillowcase for the pet to receive the vaccine.

Each vaccine is $8 and must be paid in cash.

If proof of prior rabies vaccination is presented to the clinic, the pet may receive a 3-year booster. If no prior rabies vaccination is presented, a 1-year booster will be administered.

The veterinary staff of the clinic reserve the right not to vaccinate any animal brought to the clinic that appears to be in poor health.

Rabies is present in wildlife, and steps can be taken to prevent infection in your pets and families.

Mahoning County Public Health recommends the following guidelines:

  • Vaccinate pets.
  • Maintain control of pets and reduce their exposure to wildlife.
  • Spay and neuter pets to decrease the number of strays.
  • Avoid contact with wildlife and stray animals.
  • Wash any animal bite immediately and thoroughly, then follow-up with a doctor.

The costs of this clinic are kept minimum due to a sponsorship by Mahoning County Public Health, volunteer services from Angels for Animals and Dr. Bryant.
