Century-old Warren bakery closes, ending 102 years of tradition

The smell of freshly baked Easter bread won't fill the air around a Warren neighborhood next month.
Warren Baking Company, a Warren institution for 102 years, has closed its doors, the owner announced Tuesday.
Patty Abbey, owner of the bakery at 2216 Youngstown Rd SE, announced the closure in a Facebook post, expressing gratitude to the community for its support. The bakery, founded in 1923 by the Iacozili family, had initially planned to reopen after a week-long vacation.
"We regret to inform you that we will not be reopening Wednesday as planned," Abbey wrote in the post. "As of March 11, 2025, your beloved Warren Baking Co. has closed."
The announcement, made on the bakery's social media page, cited the family's decision to close after generations of service. Abbey did not elaborate on the reasons for the closure.
The bakery was known for its fresh bread, including a popular loaf known as "Dominic's," and its role as a staple in many local homes and businesses.
Mark Canzonetta, owner of Casa di Canzonetta and Wahaka Taco, shared a tribute to the bakery on social media. He recalls his family’s long-standing tradition of purchasing bread from the Warren Baking Company. He highlighted the challenges faced by family-owned bakeries, including early morning hours and the complex craft of baking.
“For generations, my family has relied on the comforting presence of a fresh loaf of ‘Dominic’s’ Warren Baking bread,” Canzonetta wrote. “Warren Baking has not only been a staple in our home but also a key ingredient in the success of local businesses like Pesto’s, where their bread was a beloved highlight.”
He praised the Iacozili family’s dedication and wished Abbey well in her future endeavors.
The bakery’s social media post invited customers to share their favorite memories and stories from the past 102 years, prompting an outpouring of community responses.
