AUSTINTOWN The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be holding an OVI checkpoint in Austintown during the evening of Friday, September 19.

The checkpoint will be conducted in the area of 4477 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown, and will run from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The checkpoint will be accompanied by saturation patrols throughout the weekend by various law enforcement agencies in Mahoning County to intercept and deter impaired drivers on the road.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
