WARREN - Back in October, 21 News reported that Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull's Medicare accreditation was at risk. When the hospital was reopened, we were told that accreditation was restored.

However, a source now tells 21 News that the hospital's agreement with Medicare still has not been restored as of Thursday, November 20.

A public report on CMS.gov shows that the hospital is not in compliance with the following Medicare Conditions of Participation for hospitals:

- Basis and Scope

- Governing Body

- Patient's Rights

- Discharge planning

This contradicts a claim from U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno, who was involved with the reopening of the hospital. Moreno previously told 21 News on October 14 that the hospital had regained Medicare certification.

Trumbull County Commissioner Rick Hernandez also told 21 News on November 14 that Insight feels "very comfortable with CMS, which is a license to continue their Medicare and Medicaid service."

21 News reached out to Hernandez for comment, and he told 21 News that it was his understanding that the accreditation had been restored and called the news that it hasn't been restored "surprising" and "disturbing."

We've reached out to Senator Moreno, as well as Insight for comment on this matter and we are waiting to hear back.

Before learning that accreditation had not been restored, a representative for Insight told 21 News that the hospital was still accepting Medicare and Medicaid patients and "addressing the regulatory matters separately."
