Trumbull County approves nearly $500k emergency boiler replacement for jail

Trumbull County commissioners approved replacing two hot-water boilers at the Trumbull County jail, citing emergency conditions and failure of the existing system. The project is expected to cost just under $500,000.
The approved Wadsworth Service proposal totals to $499,890 for equipment and services. The county has applied for a grant to cover the full amount needed and is prepared to use money from a previous opioid settlement if needed.
Trumbull County Commissioner Rick Hernandez told 21 News that this is "something that should have been done long ago."
As of late 2025, the jail's 30-year-old boilers have failed multiple times, leaving the facility without heat.
The county also requested that the project funding and work be done by Christmas. The replacement boilers will be Aerco Benchmark high-efficiency boilers.
