Father of Struthers toddler indicted in connection with son's death

STRUTHERS - The father of a toddler who was accidentally shot in a home in Struthers and died of his wounds soon after has been indicted.
According to court records, 22-year-old Jacob Jackson was indicted on a third-degree felony charge of endangering children, as well as a first-degree felony charge of involuntary manslaughter.
No arraignment date has been set for Jackson at this time.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on the 400 block of Spring Street back in August of 2025, when police say three-year-old Gionni Jackson accidentally shot himself with an unsecured firearm in the home.
A Boardman Police report alleges that Jacob Jackson had told police that his son got hold of a gun left on a dresser and shot himself in the head before he could retrieve it.
Following the shooting, a passerby began to drive the child and a parent to the hospital, before stopping to meet police and fire crews in a plaza at the corner of Mathews Road and South Avenue in Boardman.
The child was later pronounced dead, with his death being ruled accidental.
