MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - Mahoning County Magistrate and Attorney Ross Smith has announced he is running for Judge of the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas within the General Division. 

His roles as an attorney and magistrate have prepared him to "step into the role seamlessly," Smith stated in his candidacy announcement. He added that he has gained "firsthand insight into the real-life impact of the court system on families and individuals." Smith has over 20 years of legal experience, involving both prosecution and private practice, the announcement stated.

Smith said his campaign aims to emphasize several key points:

- Fair application of the law and commitment to justice.

- Respect for all parties who appear in court regardless of background.

-Efficient, thoughtful case management to ensure timely justice.

- Integrity and the protection of our community.

Mark D'Apolito has also announced his campaign for Judge of the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas. D'Apolito will be running as a Democratic candidate in the primary. Smith said he will be running on the Republican ticket. The primary election is on May 5.

In the November general election, both candidates will be vying for Judge R. Scott Krichbaum's seat, which he is set to vacate.
