'Care Cabinet' offering life-saving supplies arrives in Austintown

AUSTINTOWN - Mahoning County Public Health officially launched the 'Care Cabinet' in Austintown on Wednesday.
Care Cabinet is a type of vending machine that operates 24/7 and provides free, life-saving supplies to the community.
It is located outside of the Mahoning County Public Health's office at 50 Westchester Drive in Austintown.
The machine includes naloxone, fentanyl test strips, xylazine test strips, wound care kits, hygiene kits and feminine hygiene products.
A release by Mahoning County Public Health states that, though there is a decline in overdose deaths in the county and across the state, the number is still high and by providing the Care Cabinet, it hopes that number can continue to decrease.
"Expanding access to naloxone and drug checking tools helps maintain this progress and supports community safety," the release states.
The machine is funded by the OneOhio Recovery Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with communities across the state to provide funding for efforts involving substance abuse treatment, recovery and prevention.
