Charges filed in connection with crash that killed Salem couple in 2024

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Columbiana County - Charges have been filed against a suspect more than one year after a crash that claimed the life of a couple from Salem.
According to Columbiana County Municipal Court records, 26-year-old Kaylan Jones is charged with two first-degree misdemeanor counts of vehicular homicide.
The charges stem from a crash that occurred on Georgetown Road in Perry Township back in September of 2024 that claimed the lives of 87-year-old Richard Hiner and 89-year-old Joanne Hiner of Salem.
Police say Jones was asleep at the wheel and crossed over the center line, striking a minivan.
According to court records, a secret indictment was filed against Jones back in November of 2025, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. That warrant was ultimately served in late February.
Court records show Jones was arraigned on Friday, February 27, where bond was set at $5,000. He is now free on bond and due back in court for a pretrial hearing on May 4.
