YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Crews spent Tuesday afternoon making much needed repairs to the historic Lanterman's Mill.
The water wheel hasn't turned since January. The beam supporting the heaviest side of it has completely rotted through. Crews cut out the old beam and replaced it with a new one.
"This is though just a very small piece of what we need to do to keep the mill running because everything down here is in contact with water. Everything rots. We will eventually have to replace this wheel," said Carol Vigorito with Mill Creek MetroParks.
The wheel is about 14 years old. The last one was replaced after 15 years.
If the current repairs go as planned, the mill will be grinding grain as early as next week.
