POLAND, Ohio - Major League Umpire, John Hirshbeck and his wife Denise, started the "Magic of Michael" foundation to help other families with children who have special needs after they lost two sons to a very rare genetic brain disease.

Monday, supporters of the cause took to the links at the Lake Club, in Poland, to take a swing at fighting the curve balls that life can throw our way.

"The magic of Michael is something that our good friend Kim Davis came up with it, and it epitomizes Michael and the kind of person that he was,"said Michael Hirshbeck.

That memory of Michael was nothing short of magic as 140 golfers lined up to help raise money for children in the valley with special needs.

"Michael would have been so overwhelmed that we had the kind of turnout that we did and we are very overwhelmed I have to say it's been a labor of love," added Michael's mother, Denise.

It's this family's mission to keep their son's memory alive. People have rallied around the cause. So far the foundation has raised close to 300 thousand dollars. They plan to make this an annual event.

"We raised more money than we ever even imagined and I said I don't care if we raise 5 or 50 thousand dollars just to do this we will make it a yearly thing,"said Denise Hirshbeck.
