A Warren man has been charged after police say they found him towing his 16-month old daughter behind a tractor along a city street.

Thomas McDaniel, 31, was given a court summons for child endangering Saturday afternoon after police stopped his tractor pulling a utility cart along Grandview Ave. SE near Bonnie Brae Avenue.

According to a police report, although there was a car seat in the cart, the toddler was not strapped in.

McDaniel told the officer that he had just picked up his daughter from the baby sitter on Woodland Street and was taking her his house across from Williard School. The father said he doesn't have a car, and this was the only way to take his daughter home.

The officer explained that McDaniels was putting his daughter in danger; he pointed out that it is also illegal to drive a tractor down the middle of the road.

After the officer said that McDaniels would need to cross two busy intersections at East Market Street and Youngstown Road, the child's father replied, “I make sure traffic is clear and go slow.”

In addition to the child endangering charge, McDaniel was issued a traffic citation driving the tractor on the street.
