YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - His next official bout is only a few weeks away but Kelly Pavlik found himself in the news Tuesday for a different type of fight.  Now he wants to set the record straight.

The former world boxing champ tells 21 News reporter Glenn Stevens he "absolutely was not" drinking prior to a scuffle with his brother at their parent's Youngstown home Monday night.

A Youngstown police department report says the brothers "allegedly were drinking at the time of this incident." Kelly received treatment for alcohol abuse and was released from rehab in January.

According to Youngstown police, an argument between Pavlik and his brother Michael turned physical at the home on Cornell Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Monday night.

The police report states that Kelly Pavlik punched a side door of the house and pulled Michael out through the broken window, a claim Kelly denies.  Pavlik says the glass in the door was broken as the two pushed and shoved each other.

Officers at the scene reported that Michael Pavlik had minor cuts to his face and hands and that Kelly had already left the scene.  Michael told police he did not wish to file any charges against Kelly.

Kelly says he was at the house a total of three to five minutes and left before the situation could escalate.

Earlier this year Kelly Pavlik completed a two month alcohol-abuse rehabilitation program. Pavlik is currently in training for his scheduled bout next month against Darryl Cunningham at the Covelli Centre.

Again, the incident Monday evening resulted in no serious injuries, no arrests and no charges are pending.
