SALINEVILLE, Ohio - The Humane Society of Columbiana County is investigating a horrific case of animal cruelty.

Two teens found a dead dog hanging from a tree over the weekend.

Columbiana County Humane Society Agent Jan Palmer found a young black lab, pit bull mix on the ground in a remote area of Salineville on Monday.

"The dog had been shot in the side," Palmer said. "Some people with me said it looked like [it was from] a shotgun. Whether it was shot before it was hung on the tree or whether it was shot afterwards, not sure."

Over the weekend, two teens found the animal, believed to be a year old, hanging from a tree by a wire clothes hanger off of Hazel Run Road.

"Unfortunately if someone can do something of this nature it's going to lead to bigger and bigger things so we have someone out here that is very dangerous, very dangerous," Palmer said.

A reward is being offered by Palmer personally for any information that could lead to who committed this crime.
