Hermitage restaurant re-opens after owner dies

HERMITAGE, Pa. - Ohio State Representative Sean O'Brien says Jose de Jesus Hernandez Rodriguez was his best friend.
"He was one of my big supporters. Always contributed to the committee to elect. He helped me with my fundraisers and always gave good advice," said O'Brien.
Jesus' restaurant, La Isla, opened Thursday evening, after being closed for the past two days. Everyone was still in shock at how the 38-year-old lost his life Tuesday afternoon, when his pickup truck crashed into a wall on Silver Street.
"They can't understand why this happened, but we know he's in a good place and he's probably going to watch down on us," said Mindy Hernandez, Jesus' sister in law.
Mindy said her husband, Jesus' brother Lazaro will run the restaurant. So, while people came here to celebrate the life of Jesus, they are also showing their support for his family.
"We know that we're not alone. We have the whole community to keep...this is Jesus' dream, to keep it going. And we want to continue that dream," said Mindy.
O'Brien said Jesus came a long way from his native Mexico, "Jesus came from Mexico to Iowa to Kentucky. And, then he took a broken down restaurant that was a red barn and made it into this fabulous restaurant."
Long-time friend Levio Baldarelli said Jesus was well-loved throughout the community.
"He always gave extra. He always wanted to give extra. Money wasn't a cost to him," said Baldarelli.
Calling hours for Jesus will be held on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at McGonigle Funeral Home in Sharon. A funeral mass will be at noon on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church.
