A man who enjoys walking in the park for his health was attacked, beaten and robbed in Campbell.

Tom Zamary suffered multiple scalp and facial injuries from the attack. The 73-year old said he was doing his usual exercise walk around Roosevelt Park when he heard someone running up behind him.

"I just began to turn to look and I got smacked, like I've never been smacked before in my life, in the side of my head," said Zamary.

He was knocked to the ground and then two men started punching and kicking him.

"You say, these guys are going to kill me, you know that's really the thought that crosses your mind," Zamary said.

The attackers took his wallet and ran to a getaway car. Campbell police were called, and based on witness accounts were able to make arrests within a few hours.

"We had eye witnesses who described the vehicle and the driver and saw the men run toward the vehicle" said Campbell Detective Kevin Sferra.

A county-wide alert was issued for the vehicle and it was located by Youngstown police on McGuffey Road.

Three suspects are now in custody. They include 18-year-old Nathaniel Thompson, Jr., 20-year-old Sidney Rae Figinsky and 19-year-old Rashan Bell.

A warrant has been issued for a fourth suspect. Police say the man being sought and Bell are believed to be the attackers.

All are charged with aggravated robbery.

Zamary says what bothers him is that now people will be hesitant to come and enjoy the park. "It certainly leaves people with a worry that you can't go to a public park. That really should be a place of enjoyment," Zamary said.

He says he is grateful for the actions of Campbell and Youngstown police in rounding up the suspects so quickly.
