HIRAM, Ohio - A Portage county man is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and OVI in connection an accident which killed a Newton Falls man Thursday morning.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Billy Rodman was driving his motorcycle north on State Route 700 in Hiram when the incident occurred.

A car, driven by 28-year-old Evan Carter of Garrettsville, was traveling in the opposite direction and attempted to make a left turn onto Norton Road.

Troopers say Carter's vehicle turned directly into the path of Rodman, whose bike struck the side of the car.  Rodman was then ejected from the motorcycle, landed on the opposite side of the road, and was run-over by another oncoming car.

The Newton Falls man was pronounced dead at the scene.  Neither Carter or the driver of the second car sustained any injuries.

Patrolmen tested Carter after the crash and found him to be under the influence.  Troopers say his blood alcohol level was .208%, more than twice the legal limit.

Carter, who has one prior DWI conviction, was arrested and booked in Portage County Jail.

In addition to the vehicular homicide and OVI charges, Carter is also charged with driving with a suspended license and failure to yield.

Carter is scheduled to be arraigned in Portage County Municipal Court on Friday afternoon.

The Ohio State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
