NILES, Ohio - The Cleveland Indians are removing the divisive Chief Wahoo logo from their jerseys and caps starting in the 2019 season.

Following numerous discussions with Major League Baseball and Commissioner Rob Manfred, the Indians will no longer wear the iconic logo, which has been deemed racist and offensive by some.

Just like baseball and apple pie, Chief Wahoo has always been a part of the Cleveland Indians.

But come 2019, the famous chief will no longer be spotted on the mound throwing a pitch.

That's because the Cleveland Indians will stop using the Chief Wahoo logo on their uniforms.

Andy Agona, the store manager at Sports Obsession at the Eastwood Mall said, "I'm not really surprised, more disappointed.  A lot of our customers you know are really going to be disappointed."

And disappointed they are, not offended, at least not the fans we talked to.

But baseball's commissioner says Major League Baseball wants to hit a home run when it comes to diversity and inclusion.

Lisa Alcorn formerly of Hubbard couldn't hold back her emotions. "I'm very upset.  That's been the logo of the Indians ever since 1908.  And so I'm not really happy that it's become a political issue."

Claude Steele of Niles said the Chief Wahoo logo doesn't offend him at all. "I don't think it really matters. If it was something offensive they would have been changed it a long time ago.  It's been the same way for so long I don't really think it should be an issue."

Some of the people we talked to say when they think of the Cleveland Indians they think of Chief Wahoo.  And while the new logo may solve one issue, some fans think it's confusing.

"Their conference shirts had the "C" logo on it and people didn't think it had anything to do with the Indians because they just didn't recognize that "C" logo.  They were looking for something with the Chief Wahoo," Agona said.

Indians fans were even calling Sports Obsession at Eastwood Mall already asking what they have in stock with the Chief Wahoo logo hoping to stock up before the iconic logo becomes history.

But we're told Indians fans shouldn't worry, Indians shirts and hats and other items with the Chief Wahoo logo will still be available at the team's souvenir shops in the stadium and at retail outlets in the northern Ohio market.
