HUBBARD TWP., Ohio - A company has applied for a permit to drill an injection well to store brine and other wastes from oil and gas production in Hubbard Township.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Oil and Gas Division tells 21 News that it is reviewing an application from Bobcat Hubbard LLC’s for a Class II injection well.
The well would be located south of Hubbard Masury Road near the entrance ramp to eastbound Interstate 80.
Ohio's Class II disposal wells include conventional brine injection wells, annular disposal wells, and enhanced oil recovery injection wells. Enhanced recovery injection wells are used to increase production of hydrocarbons from nearby producing wells.
The review includes the company posting a legal notice followed by a public comment period.
The Division reviews the application by the requirements established by state law.
A summary of those regulations is available on the Division's website here:
Even if the drilling permit is granted, before beginning operations an additional Chief’s Order Authorizing is also required.
