UNITY TWP., Ohio - A Washingtonville man died Tuesday night when his car went off State Route 14 in Columbiana County.

State troopers say 48-year-old Eric Evans was killed when the Toyota Highlander he was driving went off Route 14 east of Waterford Road and struck a tree.

Investigators say Evans was not wearing a safety belt.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol tells 21 News that alcohol or drugs are not suspected, but the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

This is the second fatal accident in the Valley in as many days where unfastened seat belts was a factor.

On Monday, a Howland man and his ten-year-old daughter died in a head-on crash in Geauga County.  Neither were wearing seat belts according to state troopers.

The driver of the second car also died in that crash. He was wearing a seat belt.
