A Youngstown man who was shot during a confrontation with police is now out of the hospital and in the Mahoning County jail.

Police say 52-year-old Stephen Wilson was shot shortly after midnight on Market Street near Meadowbrook.

Answering a call that someone was firing a gun in the middle of the road, a township officer says Wilson refused to drop the weapon.

As a  state trooper and other officers rushed to the spot to help out, police say Wilson continued walking, still ignoring orders to drop the gun.

Police say that Wilson pulled out his gun and fired in the direction of multiple officers, that is when Wilson was shot and detained.

Police say they administered first aid until EMTs could take him to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of a wound that police say is not life-threatening. Wilson's condition was last listed as stable.

At the time of the shooting, there were six officers from the Boardman Township Police Department and four troopers on scene. No officers were injured.

Wilson is being charged with 10 counts of felonious assault and one count of weapons under disability.

Wilson can be seen in his hospital gown in his mugshot that was taken on Tuesday.

Wilson is set to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
