One person dead following I-80 pileup
One person has died due to the 50-vehicle pileup on Interstate 80 Tuesday.
Alexander Penn, 22 of Youngstown, died due to his injuries, while William Bradford, 62 of Springfield, is reported to have suffered critical injuries and remains in the hospital.
The pileup was a result of tractor-trailer rollover at 10:18 a.m., which blocked the ramp from the Ohio Turnpike to Interstate 76 westbound.
The Ohio Department of Transportation closed I-80 in both directions between Salt Springs Road in Weathersfield to the Ohio Turnpike in Jackson Township due to the pileup.
The eastbound lane was eventually open, but the two westbound lanes reopened around 9:30 p.m.
Rescue crews faced white-out weather conditions during the pileup.
State Troopers say charges are pending.
