AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - The projected end date for construction of a busy Austintown intersection is delayed due to a nation-wide shortage of strain poles, according to an Ohio Department of Transportation spokesperson.

The intersection of State Route 46 and Mahoning Avenue has been under $700,000 worth of construction since June to undergo various work to improve traffic congestion in the area.

The original estimated date the project would be completed by was October, but orange construction barrels still line the new turning lane.

ODOT tells 21 News the construction is delayed due to a large shortage of strain poles, which hold traffic signals up.

The poles were expected to be delivered by mid-November, but have yet to arrive.

Once the poles are delivered, the traffic signal will have to be reconfigured, and the road restriped.

ODOT says the new projected completion date for construction is Spring of 2020 if the weather cooperates and the poles arrive within the next few weeks.
