YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown said one of the duties of the National Guard units dispatched to the Valley is going to be helping scout out mobile hospitals.

Governor Mike DeWine spread units across the state to assist in the fight against the coronavirus.

Mayor Brown said the men and women who have been mobilized are performing vital logistical tasks like distributing supplies and locating hospitals.

He said those mobile hospitals would be able to handle overflow patients.

One of those sites could be on Youngstown State University's campus.

Public Information Officer Ron Cole said the state was there to look at putting non-coronavirus patients at Stambaugh Stadium or the gymnasium if needed.

However, the National Guard will not be performing any sort of law enforcement duties in the state or the Valley.

Mayor Brown said the Youngstown Police Department would continue to be the city's law enforcement team.

As always, the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol stand ready to help as well.

"These are unprecedented times, but we will get through them together and be a stronger community for having weathered this storm. Stay home except for essential errands. Stay safe when you do need to go out. Life will return to normal. Please be kind to one another," said Mayor Brown.
