Dog owner and person who shot dog charged in Brookfield incident

BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - After investigating the shooting of a dog in Brookfield on Tuesday, Chief of Police Daniel Faustino stated that two individuals will be charged in the case.
The dog's owner, Susan Simon, is charged with failure to confine her dogs, which is a misdemeanor charge.
The man who allegedly shot and killed the dog, Daniel Hartzell, is also being charged with discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises.
The incident was reported Tuesday morning along Bedford Road.
According to a police report, Hartzell said two dogs were attacking livestock on his property, and he fired a weapon at them. He allegedly fired at least 10 times.
After the shots were fired, Hartzell told police the dogs ran away. One of the dogs was later found dead.
According to the report, the man showed police a dead duck that he said the dogs attacked.
