YOUNGSTOWN - Are you looking for a simple way to catch your bus on time, get off at the right stop, and pay your fare? There’s an app that can help transit riders plan, pay for, and navigate their trip.

Intel company, Moovit, has announced a partnership with NEORide council of governments to add fare payments to an already existing app for use by passengers of the Western Reserve Transit Authority and a dozen other transit agencies.

Moovit’s mobile ticketing provides contactless fare payment that can be visually inspected or electronically scanned, allowing WRTA riders and employees to maintain social distancing while handling fare transactions without touching cash or cards.

Local riders will be able to use Moovit to purchase and validate EZfare tickets through Masabi’s integrated fare payments platform, Justride, which operates across 11 countries and for more than 80 agencies.

When a rider launches Moovit, the app not only inputs their destination and selects their transportation route, it also displays a map and the total cost of the trip, including transfers.

Users can also buy transit tickets directly in the app, meaning riders will not need to search for change or stand in line at transit stations.

A digital ticket and unique QR code can be easily scanned for ticket validation.

WRTA routes are currently available on Moovit.  However, since WRTA is currently offering rides free of charge, the app’s fare payment option won’t be available until the transit authority begins charging riders again.
