Cortland man accused of assaulting teen for fake diamond earrings
A Cortland man already accused of committing a sex crime against a fifteen-year-old girl is now back behind bars after being charged with assaulting a teenager at a local playground and stealing the boy’s fake diamond earrings.
Twenty-year-old Nicholas Hedrick is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on charges of assault, robbery.
Police arrested Hedrick after investigating a report that a seventeen-year-old boy was assaulted on the basketball court at Cortland’s Willow Park on Wednesday.
The victim told police that a pair of faux diamond earrings, worth about $1, were stolen during the incident. Paramedics treated the teen for injuries.
According to police, Hedrick was already wanted for failing to show up in court for a bond hearing in an unrelated case filed earlier.
Hedrick is under indictment by the Trumbull County Grand Jury on charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and interference with custody.
That case stems from July when Cortland Police arrested Hedrick as when they caught him walking down the street with a fifteen-year-old girl who had run away from her home in Youngstown.
