Love's Furniture severing Valley stores from chain

DETROIT - Just months after getting new owners and a new name, employees of a furniture retailer with three stores in the Valley have learned that someone else is taking over.
The CEO of Loves Furniture and Mattresses told 21 News that employees at a dozen locations, including the former Levin stores in Niles, Boardman, and Hermitage, have been told that they are no longer employed by Loves.
Loves CEO Mack Peters said that he is downsizing operations and plans to only keep 12 stores open near the company's headquarters in the Detroit area. Eleven of the stores staying open are in Michigan and one is in Toledo.
Peters says that the other 12 stores are conducting “consolidation sales” being overseen by Planned Furniture Promotions, a Connecticut-based company that offers services that include liquidations, store closings, going-out-of-business, and bankruptcy.
According to Peters, employees of the dozen impacted stores have been told they can keep working for PFP if they wish. The future of those stores is uncertain following the consolidation sales.
Peters said he did not know how many employees work at the 12 stores being severed from the Loves chain.
21 News contacted PFP and was directed to Peters for any further information.
As for Love’s customers with pending orders, Peters says Loves will remain in business and ordered goods will be delivered.
It has only been seven months since Loves Furniture and Mattresses took over 27 stores in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and four other states after the parent company of Art Van, Wolf, and Levin stores announced it was going out of business.
