Two dead in Lake Milton house fire
LAKE MILTON, Ohio - Two people are dead following a house fire that broke out early Saturday morning near Lake Milton.
The call came in around 3:30 a.m. at a home on Roselawn Street.
When crews arrived about four minutes later, they found a single story home fully engulfed in flames.
"We had fire coming out three sides of the house and through the roof," Harold Maynard said, Lake Milton Fire Chief.
Five nearby departments including Newton Falls, Berlin Center and Palmyra went to help Lake Milton firefighters battle the flames.
Chief Maynard tells 21 News the elderly couple living inside the home died in the fire.
Authorities say the elderly woman who lived inside of the home called her son and told him that she thought their wood burner was still burning.
Fire crews have put out the flames, but remain on the scene to ensure that the fire does not rekindle.
The county coroner and investigators are expected to go to the scene today. Chief Maynard says the state fire marshal will investigate the official cause.
