YOUNGSTOWN - The City of Youngstown is proposing a $2 million project to improve ten Mahoning Avenue intersections on the city’s West Side.

The project includes the replacement of ten traffic signals along Mahoning Avenue from S. Meridian Rd. to Oak Hill Avenue as well as the installation of pavement markings, new signs, and new curbs and ramps that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act at the ten intersections.

The signal replacements are planned at the following intersections:

  • Mahoning Ave/Meridian Rd
  • Mahoning Ave/Dunlap Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Schenley Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Hazelwood Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Belle Vista Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Eleanor Ave/Steel St
  • Mahoning Ave/Glenwood Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Edward St
  • Mahoning Ave/West Ave
  • Mahoning Ave/Oak Hill Ave

Most of the proposed work will take place within existing roadway rights-of-way, however, a few intersections may require the acquisition of new permanent right-of-way for the traffic signal replacements, according to a news release from the city.

The project is scheduled to begin construction in the summer of 2023 and the estimated cost is approximately $2,078,093.00.

Traffic will be maintained during the duration of the project. Access to adjacent businesses, residences, and intersecting side streets will be maintained during construction. No detours will be needed.

Detailed construction updates will be posted on the City of Youngstown webpage, https://youngstownohio.gov, prior to the start of construction.
