McDonald beats Lowellville for 20th win, could share MVAC Title

The McDonald Blue Devils boy's basketball team improved to 20-1 overall after defeating Lowellville 73-54 on Wednesday evening.
The Blue Devils were paced by their senior leaders Miles Culp and Jake Portolese, who each scored 24 points against the Rockets.
Vinny Ballone led the way for Lowellville with 23 points, followed by Anthony Lucente with 12 and Johnny Michaels with 10.
With 13 conference wins this season, McDonald will at least share the MVAC league championship. A split of the league title can happen if Springfield (14-3, 11-1) wins their last two games of the season. The Tigers play Friday at Waterloo and Saturday at Sebring, both league opponents.
If Springfield wins out, they will also be 13-1 in the MVAC and share the league championship with McDonald.
If the Tigers are unable to win both of its remaining games, the Blue Devils will be sole MVAC league champions.
McDonald has one game remaining, a non-league game at Struthers (20-0) on Friday.
McDonald owns the No. 1 seed in Div. IV Northeast 2 district while Springfield holds the No. 1 seed in the Div. III Northeast 1 district.
The No. 6 seed in the Div. IV Northeast 1 district belongs to Lowellville, who will face either Brookfield or Lordstown in the District quarterfinal on Feb. 26.
